Welcome to The E6 Wiki. The wiki all about Elephant 6.
Music too hip for the hipsters

As you can see, a lot of things are still being worked on here. It may not look like much is up yet, and the main page itself isn't all that great at the moment, but that shall all soon be changed.

Current content and articles are already being created by staff as well as users of the community. In the meantime, we greatly encourage all users to join in on the effort and help us in starting to create articles. In the meantime, feel free to check out a random page to see what kind of articles have already been created.

Hopefully we'll be able to have much more content up soon, as well as more functionality to the site itself. Feel free to tell us any suggestions and recommendations you have for the site, and improvements you'd like to see made.

The Elephant 6 Recording Company is an independent music collective based out of Athens, GA. It has been responsible for spawning some of the most well recognized indie music groups since the 1990s, helping to shape the entire genre of music.

Officially created in Denver, Colorado; the collective was founded by members Jeff Mangum, Will Cullen Hart, Bill Doss, and Robert Schneider. During the late 1980s, growing up as friends together in their high school in Ruston, Louisiana, the group started to record their own music in their homes, using their boomboxes and 4-track cassette recorders, and traded the tapes amongst each other.

Eventually, they started collaborating together in their recordings, and forming their own bands and pet projects. In 1991, Robert Schneider moved to Denver, and started attending the University of Boulder. While there, Schneider and his new-found friends created their own band, The Apples in Stereo. This is when the recording label got it's first official start, as The Apples were about to release their first single. Schneider called upon his friend Will Cullen Hart to design a logo for the label, while he began to sell mailorder cassettes under various titles. In 1993, 500 copies were made of The Apples' Tidal Wave 7" EP, which included illustrations by Will Hart, and became the first record to be released by Elephant 6, thus launching the label. We need content

The Elephant Six wiki is off to a good start so far, and I'd like to immensely thank all who have contributed so far. We really appreciate all the time and effort that users have put into helping us form this wiki. The wiki continues to grow, and we're getting new articles and attracting new users every day. However, we still have a lot more content that needs to be added.

I implore anyone who is a viewer of the wiki, who does not currently have an account, to sign up and become a user. One thing that will help this wiki grow is having more of a sense of community. After all, that's what really makes a good wiki, a strong community of users backing it up and helping to form it, constantly creating new content and updating existing pages to help the wiki grow and become even stronger. Another thing I really encourage, is that once you become a user, please start helping to contribute to the wiki.

Like it was stated, this wiki is still off to a start, and still needs more content to help it grow. We're looking for users that have their own specific knowledge on various Elephant 6 subjects and musical projects. Don't have much to add but still want to help? Please, go around to different pages, look for any errors you may notice, help make sure everything is formatted properly, or maybe even add just a small tidbit to help make an article more unique.

New Profiles

Recently, I went ahead and updated the user profiles. They're now a bit more interactive and extensive, and allow you to do a bit more. You can now do things such as upload your own avatar, add a bit of info about yourself so people can get to know you better, leave shouts on other peoples pages and vice versa which also serves as a nice way to leave messages for people, as well as add people as friends and more easily keep in touch with other users. The profiles also offer a more accessible way to view items such as pages you are watching, and contributions you have made to the wiki, as well as allowing other users to see what you have contributed.

You also have the option to switch from the new updated profile, and back to your user page, where you can create a page about yourself as well, just as you would any article. So feel free to go check it out, all you need to do is click on your username in the top right of the page to bring you right to your profile. You can also check out my profile to see an example of what the updated system looks like.

Hope you all enjoy the updates, and please, always feel free to offer suggestions for new things to be added to the wiki, new features you think should be implemented, as well as any errors you may come across, etc. And with the new profiles in place, you can also feel free to go and leave me a message on my profile to help get my attention and leave feedback on all of this
